MOUNTAIN VIEW, California: On June 12, Google announced that it had fixed a temporary global service disruption that impacted several of its platforms, which in turn affected services like Spotify and Discord.
"The issues with Google Chat, Google Meet, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Cloud Search, Google Tasks, and Google Voice have been resolved for all impacted users," the company stated. "We will provide an analysis of this incident once our internal investigation is complete."
The outage also interrupted services on platforms such as Spotify, Snapchat, and Discord, which depend on Google's cloud-managed services and infrastructure. According to Google Cloud's dashboard, engineering teams were still addressing some residual issues that were affecting a few services.
The disruption began around 1:50 p.m. ET, with Downdetector.com reporting 14,729 incidents of Google Cloud outages in the U.S. by 2:32 p.m. ET. At its peak, there were approximately 46,000 outage reports for Spotify and 10,992 for Discord in the U.S. By 6:18 p.m. ET, reports for Spotify had dropped to just over 1,000, while outages for Discord had decreased to about 200.
It's important to note that Downdetector's figures are based on user-reported issues, so the actual number of affected users may have been higher.
