SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - A 45-year-old Queensland man has been charged after police allegedly discovered a loaded revolver, a prohibited weapon, and a suspected illicit substance during a vehicle search in Sydney's south-west.
The incident unfolded around 2:50 pm on Friday when officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command's Proactive Crime Team pulled over a Victorian-registered BMW sedan on Cartwright Avenue, Cartwright, for a random breath test.
Police conducted checks on the driver and his front-seat passenger, a 45-year-old man, and discovered the passenger had outstanding arrest warrants. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a silver Magnum 500 revolver under the front passenger seat, loaded with five spent shell casings.
Officers also allegedly found a 1.5-metre dragon spear and a quantity of white crystalline substance, believed to be an illegal drug.
The Queensland man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit, and two outstanding warrants related to breach of bail and using a carriage service to menace or harass.
Investigations into the white crystalline substance are ongoing, NSW Police said in a statement.
The man was refused bail and was set to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
