ISLAMABAD -- The Chinese construction and power companies are internationally competitive, and they produce very good quality work, a Pakistani official told Xinhua in a recent interview.
"Most of these companies have an experience of working on mega projects in China as well, and some of these companies are also working overseas, so put together, they bring a very large experience as they come here and work in our country," said Sajjad Ghani, chairman of Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). TOKYO -- One out of 10 people in Japan is now aged 80 or older, while the ratio of elderly to the total population rose to a record high, ministry data showed Sunday.
Japan's elderly citizens, defined as those aged 65 and above, saw their percentage in the overall population at a historic high of 29.1 percent, according to the demographic statistics announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications a day before the country's Respect for the Aged Day holiday. PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's Koh Ker archaeological site on Sunday was inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List, bringing the country's tangible cultural properties on the list to four, said a government's statement.
The inscription was made during the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the statement said. (Cambodia-World Heritage-UNESCO)

FARAH, Afghanistan -- The distribution of China-donated humanitarian assistance has started in west Afghanistan's Farah province as 29 needy families received aid packages, an official said on Saturday.
Each family was given two bags of rice, each weighing 50 kg, and 329 more destitute families will be receiving their share from the aid in the coming days, according to provincial director for Natural Disaster Management Authority Mohammad Israel Sayar. (Afghanistan-Humanitarian Aid-China)
