WASHINGTON D.C.: The Biden administration has denied media reports that it has blocked the sales of microchips to companies located in the Middle East.
The United States "has not blocked chip sales to the Middle East," a U.S. Department of Commerce spokesperson said in response to media reports.
Earlier news stories reported the US had blocked the shipment of chips manufactured by Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
In spite of US denials, Nvidia, in a regulatory filing earlier this week, said it has been blocked from shipping its chips.
Meanwhile, the US Commerce Department has not responded to requests on whether it had imposed new requirements on specific U.S. companies.
According to reports, new US regulations would require Nvidia to obtain a license if it wished to sell chips to some Middle Eastern countries.
In the recent past, such restrictions on the export of technology from the US was justified on national security grounds.
In recent years, large categories of technological exports to China have been prohibited.
