PHNOM PENH, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Under-23 national football team lost to Japan 3-1 in an international friendly here on Tuesday night.
Played at the capital's Morodok Techo National Stadium, the game attracted nearly 10,000 football fans.
In the first half, the Japanese team took the lead through forward Hiro Komori in the 14th minute, but the Cambodians managed to equalize in the 27th minute through a penalty kick from midfielder Choun Chanchav.
The Japanese squad restored their lead in the 37th minute with a goal scored by midfielder Kaito Fujii.
The visitors made it 3-1 as midfielder Hayata Mizuno headed home in the 69th minute.
The friendly match is part of the Cambodian team's preparations for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, which will be held in Cambodia in May 2023.
Cambodia will take on Bangladesh in a friendly on Thursday at the same venue, according to the Football Federation of Cambodia.
