MEXICO CITY, Mexico: Mexico's Tourism Department has reported that international tourism has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, as 10.26 million visitors have arrived in the country in the first six months of 2022.
International arrivals were up 1.5 percent from January to June 2022, compared to the 10.11 million tourists who arrived in Mexico in the first half of 2019.
The country sending the most tourists was the United States, with 6.6 million arriving by air in the first six months of 2022, a 19.1 percent increase over the same period in 2019.
Some travel officials have speculated that the war in Ukraine has convinced some Americans to vacation closer to home in Mexico this year.
Overall, Mexico's economy grew by 1 percent in the second quarter of 2022, the national statistics agency reported this week.
