JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- About 100 Islamic State (IS)-affiliated militants surrendered in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Tuesday, a local official confirmed.
"Some 100 Daesh or IS militants surrendered to officials of Nangarhar General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) in provincial capital Jalalabad city Tuesday morning," Mohammad Bashir, director of Nangarhar GDI office, told reporters. (Afghanistan-Militants-Surrender)

COLOMBO -- The Sri Lanka Navy on Tuesday afternoon said six people died and 14 people including children were rescued after a ferry capsized in Kinniya in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province earlier in the day.
Navy Spokesperson Captain Indika De Silva told Xinhua that the ferry capsized early Tuesday while it was crossing a waterway as the bridge above has been damaged. (Sri Lanka-Ferry Capsize)

TOKYO -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 struck off Japan's Miyagi Prefecture on Tuesday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The temblor occurred at around 6:48 p.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 38.9 degrees north and a longitude of 142.3 degrees east, and at depth of 50 km. (Japan-Earthquake)
