Hee Jeong Lim carded a 6-under-par 66 on Friday to move into a first-place tie after two rounds of the BMW Ladies Championship in Busan, South Korea.
Lim recorded six birdies against zero bogeys to pull even with fellow South Korean Na Rin An (69) at 11-under 133 on the par-72 LPGA InternationalBusan course.
"I'm a player that needs to start off well. So I really focus on my first and second holes. And I think once you play well in your first two holes, then you're at an ease for the following holes. So I think that worked well today," Lim said.
"And in terms of the course itself, I think we can get an opportunity to snatch many birdies here. So I tried to aim for that. So I tried to work on my shot."
An lamented a missed opportunity before finishing with four birdies against one bogey on Friday.
"Actually I did have some birdie chances in the beginning; however, I misread the break, and that led to some missed shots," An said. "However, in hole 6 and 7, I was to read the break well, and I think that worked well altogether."
Major champions Danielle Kang (68) and In Gee Chun (69) reside one stroke back in a tie for third place.
"I've been working on a lot of good things. And I called Butch (Harmon) my fairy godfather today, because he waved the wand and fixed something that I've been working on for a while," Kang said. "Guess it was more -- there was a couple technical stuff that we discussed. I think it's being open about what's bothering you, how you felt on certain putts and shots.
"I had enough data for me to present to him, and at that point we discussed possible stuff, and then we tried some things, and I feel like we're on the right track. And then that's when I felt more free."
South Korean Jim Young Ko answered an opening-round 71 by posting a bogey-free 64 to sit in fifth place, two strokes behind the leaders. She capped her sizzling performance with a birdie on the final hole.
"So yesterday it was raining. So that made the play very tough. But the weather was much better today," Ko said. "I think I was able to play well. But yesterday I didn't play as well as I had expected. However, today I started off in 10, so I think that kind of relieved my pressure as well. So my swing went well, my putting went well, and overall that made me able to snatch many birdies."
Six-time LPGA Tour winner Minjee Lee (69) of Australia and Hae Ran Ryu (70) of South Korea are tied for sixth place at 8-under. A four-way tie for eighth place includes 2020 U.S. Women's Open champion A Lim Kim of South Korea.
Defending champion Ha Na Jang posted a 69 on Friday. She is tied for 52nd place at 1-under 143.
