"Listen, there are people that are coming down the pilot ladder of the prow. You go up that pilot ladder, get on that ship and tell me how many people are still on board. And what they need. Is that clear? You need to tell me if there are children, women or people in need of assistance. And tell me the exact number of each of these categories. Is that clear? Listen Schettino, that you saved yourself from the sea, but I am going to... I'm going to make sure you get in trouble. ...I am going to make you pay for this. Go on board."

Radiation contaminated baby formula recalled in Japan

Japanese milk powder maker, Meiji, has voluntarily recalled its baby formula after discovering radioactive caesium in the product.

The company announced Tuesday that it was recalling 400,000 cans of baby formula, which is produced in Saitama prefecture, north of Tokyo.

Saitama borders the tsunami-hit prefecture of Fukushima where the nuclear plant of the same name suffered a major malfunction in March.

Meiji announced the recall after tests found up to 30.8 becquerels of caesium per kilo of Meiji Step powdered milk, which are below the recommended limits set by the Japanese government.

The formula maker said it was going ahead with the recall anyway in the interests of public safety.

Shares in the firm fell 10% in early trading in Tokyo after the company announced the recall.

Milk powder is the latest foodstuff to be affected by radioactivity in Japan after caesium contamination in shipments of beef and rice led to bans in August and September respectively.
